Best Headphones 75-100$ - Page 3

bowei006: how much do the SRH440 change after 200 hours? And what music do you listen to? I read many favorable reviews about the Shure's but also some  complaints that they are too bright and lacking bass. People obviously have different preferences but I was just curious about your opinion. And OP also asked about the Shure's.

Just to clarify the reason I stated before that the SRH440 are bass shy-neutral is because OP said he was looking for something with ample bass for electronic music, which IMO they are most definitely not. It just depends on what music you are listening to. Some tracks sound good, while others sound a little thin. If you listen to jazz they do not extend low enough to fully portray an acoustic bass. I'll admit I only have about 100-125 hours on them, but can they really change that drastically?

Thanks for that clarification. I was actually interested in their performance with jazz, so this was helpful.

PerForming jazz with these is probably not a good idea. By about 150-200hrs the highs and mids are near their "finished" point. The lows start comming into what they r at or by this point too. However it took another aprox 150hrs to achieve top condition. At this point it isnt bass shy per see. The bass is actually ove neutral to put an emphasis if u listen to pop or hi hop. But not enough to overpower when listening to rock. Im a mainstream boy. I listen to nockelback , linkin park, pendulum, evanescense, skillet , sixx am, lil wayne, drake , rhinana, katy perry, lady gaga, jason derulo. And they have all played admirably on the shures. However they r very neutral sounding and ive begun to meed tome fun to them sso i got ultrasones

I fully got these burned in a while ago so the only number i can give u approx for final sound quality would be approx 300+hrs

graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=533&graphID[]=2811&graphID[]=1163

This graph shows frequency response of the three originally mentioned headphones. The Senn. HD280 is the only one with reasonable amounts of bass, as the others roll off.

graphCompare.php?graphType=6&graphID[]=533&graphID[]=2811&graphID[]=1163

In this graph, it shows the the HD280 has more isolation than the other two as well.

In conclusion: The HD280 is the only one of the first three mentioned that has bass and good isolation like the OP wanted.

yeah i've seen that too, however. when i bought my Shure's....don't know what it was. but it seems like there was something diferent about the two cans. the many reviewers..just couldn't put their fingers on it. and so i got these. same price. except for one that is pretty ugly and one that is fresh. whatever. i got the hfi 580's

Hey Everyone! Back for an Update.   So the koss' came in today, and im really satisified with the sound. @Tdock I also bought the m50 pads, and put them on. What a difference! The stock pads were horrible. I also have a fiio e6, which i feel really helps with the volume and punch of all the lows and mids. Overall though I am very impressed with these headphones. The build quality is above average (solid aluminum!), and the sound is clear and crisp. The bass is there, but not as much as I had hoped, yet the quality of the highs and mids make up for it.

I would've recommended the HD280Pro. They're really good headphones, but incredibly flat and neutral. And, if you truly appreciate music, then you want flat and neutral sound. They're a little tight at first, so put some books in between them to stretch them out while playing them.  I'd recommend 100+ hours of burn in.  The Shure have no bass, it's really disappointing.  Shure have very shrill highs, they always have, even in the earbuds.  The HD280Pro have that veiled highs but it's very crisp and realistic with good mids and tight bass.
