iBasso DX100 Reference DAP - ES9018 inside - Page 12

Agreed - my T51 fell off the bed last night, (onto carpet ...), and I now have a lovely crack in my screen. I really want something small and tough like the Clip+, but I accept that they will never be able to fit all that silicon into such a tight form factor.

 

Start at the top end of Broadway, walk through the campus at the University of Sydney, then take a wander down George St to the Rocks via Haymarket and Chinatown. This isn't a racist thing - I've travelled extensively through Asia there are Chinese faces in every city I've visited - makes sense that a city like Sydney will be no different. The harbour views might be different, but both are modern cities with gleaming skyscrapers and a cosmopolitan feel.

1k price is just insane,

 

if it does have 1K price tag , it must have :

 

20+ hrs battery

Very Good build and 3yrs warranty

Awesome amp section, ( some thing close to pico slim )

Awesome DAC. ( now sure the 9018 is good , but implementation is the key, there are dacs  with es9018, that are nothing but talk.)

 

...it must have atleast 3 of the above. to justify the 1K price tag. ( good UI , analog /digital lineouts , etc. of course is a must )

 

for $6-750 it must have 2 of the above.

 

Any chance that we could hold off on the wild speculation until iBasso actually announce the price - I know this is Hype-Fi, but posts like this are only going to feed the belief that it will be 'too expensive' for most of us. I find it interesting that the people who have decided the HM-801 is 'overpriced junk' dont actually own it - lets give iBasso a chance to put their cards on the table ......

 

PS please tell us about the aforementioned kit that is 'nothing but talk'.

My wish is that the thing can be a little slim down with memory starting around 128 g.

 

I have been listening to the Headroom Ultra DAC that uses the same ESS9018 and it is a very nice Dac.

wild speculation ? ! i am just putting down the things that i think , a $1000 DAP must have. i said "IF " it has 1K price tag.

 

Hm801 s great (IMO ) , it has an option to upgrade the amp section , has very usable UI , and an awesome DAC. if you go by my spec list it manages to justify the price tag.

 

 

more over , ibasso, in my opinion is not targeting HM801 like sales . the DX100 has a very good design and build  ( which may mean that they want to sell numbers, not like HM801 ) .

 

PS: Audio GD NFB11. OK , but it proves that a DAC is more than just the DAC chip. 

I have to agree with estreeter though, 'cos afterall this thread is about the iBasso DX100 rather than a wishlist of what one wants in their perfect DAP. Personally I'll worry about the price only after it's been announced.

The brick look is very appealing to me. Something about my PMP having some oomph and weight to it just makes it attractive.
And it looks like the volume steps are better than the one on my iPhone...I have to say, I haven't been this excited for a PMP since I got my iPod photo.

1K price, was a rumor here , i was responding to that ...remember i said "if it does have 1K price tag...."

 

 

If this thing comes out at $500-$700 with very low output impedance I'll be selling my current kit to get a set of Merlins and the DX100. Then I'll be happy to tell you how that combo performs 

 

I had already settled on the Merlins to go with my Cowon X7 and Just Audio uHA-120 amp, but the DX100 looks like a perfect one-box solution to my needs.

The equation of price with battery life is fanciful at best. The high end audio products are trending in the opposite direction. If you want huge battery life, buy an iPod Classic.

I have a Cowon X7 - And I'm sure it will play for 103 hours non-stop as Cowon claims. The battery life is insane... However if the DX100 can be powered via USB (like all Android devices) while playing, 10 hours would be PLENTY. 90% of my listening is in my office, in front of two computers.

I actually wrote Ibasso an email and asked about a heap of things, like "Will it run Android?", "How about the output impedance?", "When can I pre-order?" etc - here's the reply I got:
