Heya,

$1000 for movie watching headphone? Wow.

No criteria even?

Take that $1000, and put some of it into a DAC/AMP, and the rest into a headphone.

Therefore:

Hifiman HE-500 on a NFB-12

If you want closed, substitute the Denon D5000 or Beyer Dynamic T70.

Very best,

Anything preventing you from buying speakers? I'd spend 20% on a good headphone, and the rest on some nice bookshelf speakers + a sub (if there's money left).

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, Fiio E7 DAC, Fiio E9 headphone amplifier sounds pretty darn amazing especially for movies to me through my laptop and my PS3. Pretty awesome sounding and discreet rig for a total price of less than £300 GBP. Well worth considering if you're on a budget - bang for buck is through the roof!

If you have quite a substantial amount of money to play with then you could consider some of the more expensive options obviously. But an amp and dac while not strictly necessary, is however highly recommended. If you have quality headphones without dac and amp you might as well chop 1 wire out as that's how much you'd be hamstringing the headphones proper performance without even realising it.

Pro900 is excellent for movie and gaming, i like use it, especially if i m not alone ('cause closed headphone), but sometimes when i m alone, i like watching movies with HD650.(but you better have a very good AV amp or pre-amp).
