Any word on the street on when AKG will be releasing there new flagship headphones because at the moment they are really getting dominated by other brands. Espically since the k701 have been out for 5+ years.

Bought these on whim, for your basic train ride to work I don't mind. But its far from being the best I have own.

First, I should note that I auditioned these both straight out of the box, without any break-in time and then later after 53 hours of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite...

A very all-round headphone for me. Just the right one to take on the go or on holiday. Also as a DJ, nice noice isolation. Very durable so you don't have to wonder if it will break if you throw...

I saw a similar question on AKG forum a while ago, and their reply is something like: We will let you know, when we have something to show

They are owned by Harmon Clown Corp, and that is reflected by the fact that the best they can do is chase celebrities to endorse neon-colored versions of old designs. If you are waiting for another K1000, good luck - the K501 remains the best AKG I've ever owned, and I wont be revisiting their range.
My advice is to forget brands - how many people had even heard of Aude'ze 2 years ago ? Most of the general public still wouldn't know them from Jack.
They were suppose to release the k550 a couple of days ago. There have been a couple of prototypes floating around and the reviews seem great. No one has had a confirmed statement as to why they are now in the second release set back. The headphone seems really cool and looks like AKG will change in ways with this new design model being closed back and with a new style of headband. I would love to hear it.

Your statement are clownish ones forgetting a brand just because actually they don't have a uber headphone ... they still release new cans that seam work great in their price range , just because ATM they don't have a ubber expensive super can that can compete with Top tiers cans , we should forgive AKG ... this is non sens .
Ya Audeze , Hifiman , are quite new and release great cans , and soo ? Should we forget brands just because they don't have release something new ?
Not many people can afford such expensive cans ... No one know if AKG will release a new K1000 peraphs yes peraphs no .
If Sennheiser didn't have a HD-800 should i forget them too because HD-650-HD600 are old too ?
AKG is not dead there is still hope

AKG had amazing headphones that still outshine modern headphones today. not just the K1000 but the 240DF and 240 sextetts are never mentioned..well the sextetts are pretty well talked of but the 240DF's are most likely the best kept secret and overshadowed by the k1000 and sextetts popularity.
i actually want them to bring back at least the 240DF's personally but they probably won't cause people will complain it's too hard to drive and make the k701/702 look very bad since the k701/702 are their top marketed headphone. they're more about marketing nowadays so don't get your hopes up on seeing them making another headphone of the same caliber as their vintage/discontinued models.
They just make what they make. Many here have a love/hate relationship with the k7xx and it is what it is. Many love them. I think the k701s do really well at some music. They have a place in the market. Hopefully these new developments with the k550 will extend to a whole new line of headphones.
I don't think a company has to make a 1K or 1.5K headphone to get respect. They need to make a $400.00 usd headphone which sounds like a 1K headphone to get my respect. This is most likely a slowdown due to being just purchased and we will see a ton of new stuff. Being Harmon though I think it will stay in a cost effective bracket. I still need to listen to many of the headphones they have made in the past. The older models get lots of talk around these parts.

Many months ago they said they would be releasing a k1000 predecessor 'soon'. Who knows what that ever turned into.

Hopefully they'll rerelease the K1000 :/, with such a great name it's hard to figure out why they wouldn't put them into production again.

you mean they should re-release all their discontinued headphones? k1000 wasn't only the top dog when it came to accurate sound reproduction. we don't need no more 701 rebrands.

If they're releasing a K1000 predecessor, they're releasing a headphone that came before the K1000.
Did you mean K701 predecessor?

I'm hoping predecessor of K701, as in K1000.
