This makes no sense whatsoever when the HP-P1 was already put on the table by other posters.   As already pointed out, lossless (whether ALAC or FLAC) is lossless.  FLAC on the Touch will not come anywhere close to the SQ of using HP-P1 or CLAS with ALAC encoding at the source.  The BS that is promulgated here is astounding.

Sir, how satisfied are you with this portable setup? I'm planning to go this route for my audio rig...

It's a nice set-up.  A lot of the time I don't even worry about the E11 - but it does add some lower bass to the Alessandros with the bass boost on.  My portable set-up varies between B2s, MS1is and HM5s - depending on the music I'm listening to, and the environment I'm listening in.  When I'm on the move though - I find that I'm using the E11 less and less.

Thanks for the insight...

CLAS or HP-P1 plus a top notch portable amp is the no-compromise solution.  Completely different ballgame.

My personal setup is a touch 4G via LOD into a Pico Slim into a mid-priced pair of custom IEMs or DT1350's. Pico slim has the best volume control I've used.  I think a setup like this (touch 4G to decent amp) is the best you will get from the touch without using a Fostex or clas. It is not as good as the desktop rigs I've owned, and not as good as my dacport, but it is still quite good. It is my most used rig.
