Question to Past & Present Apache Owners

So as the title states I've got a question for you. 

 

How does the Apache hold up in the sea of higher end amps nowadays? 

 

I'm very interested in one for use as a headamp and preamp and I'd like feedback on both of those functions.

 

How does it hold up as a preamp compared to others in the price range? 

 

I'm mainly worried about it not being 'worth it' compared to a lot of the newer amps that have hit the market (including Ray's new Darkstar). 

 

Any other suggestions are welcome but try to keep is SS if at all possible when recommending a pre or head amp. If there's a really great tube suggestion I'll certainly consider it. Gotta have plenty of power for my LCD 2 to eat up. Thanks.
