cmoy no sound - Page 3

my journey with this amp has not gone well. I had success for about 2 hours listening to it while making a tin. While trying to insert the batteries into the tin, which was a very tight fit I may have caused too much pressure on the components on the board causing the volume to jump and static to occur while listening to it. I removed the board took all the components off and re installed them to make sure all solder joints were good. It works fine as long as it isn't touched then it pops and causes static then its ok. While my frustration was testing my patients I received the op amp kit from Fred. All I have to say is what a great design. I put it together in less than an hour with many distractions from my 2 little ones.  The amp is in a tin and working great not a single problem. Thanks Fred for a great kit, only thing it was missing the nut on the pot so I used the one from the banzai no problem. So should I just use the banzai for spare parts or does anyone have suggestions as to what may be the problem. I can say that there is a lot of flux on the board due to using a desoldering wick. I live in Hawaii and the only store that carries electronic supplies that I am aware of is Radio Shack and they don't have flux remover. I am in the process of looking for some 90% or above alcohol to try to clean up the board and see if that might help. Any other tips or suggestions are appreciated.

thanks, George

If you want to clean the solder flux off, 99%+ isopropyl alcohol should work fine. You can go lower purity, but then it leaves more residue.

If you're really stuck meths and a toothbrush will do, but its not as good as the alcohol

sorry about your nut :-)

cheers
