Woo Audio 2 vs Woo Audio 3

He everybody,

I'm thinking to buy Woo Audio 2 to run my dt990 600 ohm. I'm just wondering if Woo Audio 3 have the same power to run them? Woo Audio 2 have 4 inputs & I only need 1 input. Is this the only difference?

There is also an option for Woo Audio 3 to add pre-amp. Can Woo Audio 3 with pre-amp sound good with Dynaudio BM6A mkii monitors?

Thanks is advance!

i responded to your other post but left out the fact that i when i bought the 2 i was upgrading from the 3.

so far as i can tell from just today the difference going from 3 to 2 with the beyer 990 600s is not big.

But, that doesn't mean i won't change my mind in a few days.

maybe a hair more detail and dynamics out of the 2.

and it will push them a little farther.

any of the beyer 600 ohms are really right in the sweet spot for the 3.  and the 2 aswell of course.

but if you are just planning on pushing hte 990s the 3 might be a better value.

i cna't really comment on the pre amp section.  haven't used it and not sure how i would on my wa2.  but someday maybe

i'll update you if my thoughts change over the next few days.

theres a good group of woo owners.  so somebody else will probably chime in with a bit more experience.

good luck!

Thank you for the information. dt880smile.png

I hope there will still be a tiny difference after a few days.

i think the difference will only get bigger as i notice more things.

but its just not huge like double the price.  not with the 990s anyways.

however my 770/ pro 80s are night and day better out of the 2

I'm using the preamp out on my WA3 into a Rotel amp to B&W speakers with very good results. I have not used a WA2.

Try a different DAC, the WA2 does scale better than WA3.

Also the difference will be more apparent with higher end cans. With amplification such as the wa2 and along with a superior source, headphones like the dt990 will be the bottleneck. And those will not allow you to really hear just how good that amp can be. But will there be a difference? Yes, but not a huge one.. The dt990 does scale reasonable well. But imo a wa2 on those is overkill and isn't necessary. I would definitely go the wa3 route. Now if you plan on upgrading to a T1 very soon, then go for the wa2.

And agreed.

yeah.

basically how i feel.

it just depends on where you plan to go in the future.

me i plan on a DL III or dac magic and a pair of T1s, or maybe some HD650s on the way to the T1 party.

somebody tell me if what i am about to say is breaking the rules, and i'll remove it.

but

langolf, there will probably be WA3 for sale in the very near future.  it will give you the opportunity to try it at a lower price, and then if you want to move on resell without taking the hit from the new item tax.

oh and what kind of music do you listen to good sir?

woo audio 2 ftw.

mine should be here in a couple more hours biggrin.gif

i am upgrading to the T1 soon though since just like these guys said, the 990 will be a bottleneck in a good system (DL III and WA2 for me).

I've researched both amps and have spent too much of my life in the Woo forums.  I ultimately settled on the WA3 because I have no intention of ever buying $1000+ headphones.  Basically, the WA2 scales much better than the WA3.  If all you're ever going to run are the 770/880/990s, then get the WA3.  If you ever want to step up to the T1, then go for the WA2.  You really need better cans to experience the upgrades that the WA2 offers over the WA3.  The WA2 has a better soundstage, better imaging, smoother mids, and enhanced instrument separation, but you'll need premium cans to hear these differences.  The 770/880/990s won't benefit much from the WA3 to WA2 bump, but the T1 sure will.

either way, they're both really good amps at their price point.

I agree with this 100%... including the part about spending too much of my life in the Woo forums. cool.gif
