But do you feel the d5000's are worth $400 refurb? Over the hd428's?

Most definitely. You are comparing $100.00 at full MSRP headphone to $700.00 headphones at full MSRP. Not to mention the denons are easily modded and can be turned into open back which takes them even to another level when you already thought they were good (the mod is also testable and not permanent at all unless you like it otherwise). Are you in the USA? As I had mentioned about square trade, it really made making these purchases more easy for me as I know if anything were to go wrong in the years of coverage purchased, they will just refund me the money I paid for the item (so no worries at all). If you go this route PM me and I will provide you with a 20% coupon for square trade. I may be able to actually get you a $30.00 off coupon lol.
