Is the Sony D-EJ01 worth the $$$?

That's interesting, Vert. I seem to recall another thread where you mentioned that. I suppose it's possible that you got a hold of a funky unit. I have a 25S (heaphone out from heaven) and the 01 sounds every bit as good....but not as powerful. It's not that important though since I primarily use the D-EJ01 with my Cosmic in a travel rig.

I second vertigo on the headphone output. I have the D777 and the ej01 is unmatch interm of the headphone out. However, I never tested the EJ01 with any headphone amp. In additional to that, ..the ej01 distorted alot on my SR-80. I am sure that the player is worth the dough if you considering it with the amp.

Thanks Beyer! (And... Welcome to Head-Fi)

That place is only about an hour away from me... I might well take a look on Saturday

Oh I'm sure it'll rocket up in price the last couple of hours. I still say it's not worth it as a stand alone player...with an amp it'd be a different story perhaps, and even then I'd be just thinking of the convience of having a slot loading portable source rather than how it sounds. As a stand alone portable player just about any MD player's sound quality could murder it.

why are you loving discussing the out-of-date stuff?i think in the electronic area the newly designed may be the better.so buy a ej1000 it will satisfy you!

I strongly disagree...

ALL new PCDPs suck compared to the high end models of the late 80s, and the mid 90s...

The EJ1000 isn't TOO bad, but it still isn't in the same league as my D777
