Denon D5000's: Are they much better than my Pro 750's?

I've had my Pro 750's for a few years, and think it might be time for an upgrade. I've been lusting over the Denon D5000's for quite some time, and think I may bite the bullet and buy them. However, when I looked at comparisons between the Pro 900's (very similar to my 750's), I heard they were in fact about as good as each other, which would make getting the D5000's a bad idea. I am looking for a headphone that compliments my Pro 750's, rather than replaces them (meaning they have to be different enough to justify using both, but not polar opposites). However, I do think they should be a decent upgrade in quality. I am open to suggestions about different headphones that may fit the bill (my budget is about $450 or so), but I would take the D5000's if they fit what I want.

So my primary question is, would the D5000's be enough of an upgrade from the Pro 750's to justify the money?

I currently have a Fiio E7 amp, and listen to a mix of FLAC and Spotify (for music I don't own).

My genres of choice are electronic (house, trance, dubstep, DnB, etc.), classical, modern classical, metal, rock, folk, folk rock, ambient, and a bunch more.

Heya,

The D5000 is an upgrade in basically every way and well worth it, in my opinion. I went the route of PRO900 myself, then D2000, then D5000. In that order. And I still rank them in that order.

The D5000 has the mids you're missing, the warm woody signature, and comfort that you've yet to experience.

Your E7 is fine. It's excellent for all genres.

Very best,

Thanks for the reply. :)

Are there any drawbacks to the headphones? Would there be any genre that I would prefer my 750's with (say, electronic music)? Or would they end up replacing my Pro 750's?

Heya,

Only drawback I can think of is the price. But I got mine used, so it was half the cost. But you can find them new or like new for around $400ish. It will completely replace the PRO 750. The D5000 will slam electronic music better than the PRO 750, you'll feel the sub bass pulses and be like "O.O". As mentioned, I found it to be superior compared to the PRO900 for electronica. There is a thread actually about the PRO900 vs D2000 vs D5000 for this. Search it up, lots of good info.

Very best,
