It just makes sense to me. Grado's house seems bent to bringing life to the parts of the music that vinyl has a hard time with. Namely, the upper mids and treble. They just really sound damned good with vinyl, where, as you say, they over emphasize a CD source.

 

As for the upgraditis, I'm really fond of the drivers. They just get better and better. They aren't as accurate as my Senn HD25iis, but they aren't as cold either. I think I'm going to go with 2 holes in the drivers, a little blue tack on the driver magnets, and have my uncle turn me some woodies out of walnut or mahogany. Gotta have that BD strap pad too. As for the pads, I'm happy with exposing the full driver and then covering it with thinner foam. They're nice and comfy, and sound very nice.
