Need some guidance in upgrading options

Thread Starter

It's about that time of the year where I make a nice purchase for myself.

I want to upgrade but i'm not sure what would be the weakest link to up. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks :)

desktop:

Soundcard: Omega Claro Halo XT -> RCA's to M-Audio AV40's (i did have satellite speakers at one point, so the 7.1 functionality of the XT is kind of going to waste)

hp:

Soundcard: Omega Claro Halo XT (hp amp out)-> Beyerdynamic 990's / Senn 550's.

Your speakers, everything else you wouldn't get much more by upgrading.

Thanks. I had also thought so but was wondering if the usage of another DAC would benefit. Guessing not since the speakers do need an increase.

I was looking at the Swan M50's but being from Canada the Swan's are really hard to come across. I'm sure this has been asked many times before but there is just an overload of information sometimes: Within the 300-500 Price Range what would be recommended?

The dac you have is good enough your not gonna get much more by upgrading it, where as with the speakers you can get quite a big improvement.

300-500 pounds , dollars , euros????

Also do you 2.0 or 2.1 set-up.

300-500 Canadian (pretty much USD) and a 2.1 or a 2.0 setup both would work, I have a lot of space.

Active wise, prodipe pro 5's or 8's or behringer b1030a or b1031a, with the smaller monitors you'd need a sub but with the bigger monitors with the 8" woofers.

Passive wise I don't know whats avaible in your country but it would be worth demoing some speakers , amps , subs at a hifi shop, you could get a decent set-up with your budget.
