Hey guys

I just received the Fiio E11 and im really enjoying the combination. It is a definite improvement on the mobile front (ie using my iPod/iPhone). Id say a 15-20 % improvement

The biggest surprise was how much it has improved my Earbuds (i have the Denon C560s)  they sound 50% better, much fuller and brighter.

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately the 5000 or 7000 wont work with the iPod/iPhone and they cant drive them enough.

What kind of fallacy is this? The D7000 can be driven decently by a penny attached to a battery. It's incredibly efficient. Of course, amping will be better, but it sounds DAMN good unamped.

just get d5000 or d7000 and then get a small portable amp.

Glad to see you like your amp. Amps really do a great job, even with super easy to drive headphones (like the Denon D2000/D5000/D7000).

Honestly, since you really like your D2000's, I'd just upgrade to the higher end denons. They're great headphones for the price, and have characteristics you already know you like.

The D5000's have even better bass, but also have nicer mids and highs than the D2000's. The D7000's are the most balanced of the three, with less bass (not less quality, just less quantity. The bass is *immensely* satisfying when you get used to it), more natural mids, and very sparkly highs.

Because of the genres you listen to, I'd recommend the 7000's because it has much less of an emphesis on bass and is more balanced. However, they are much less like the D2000's than the D5000's are. It would be more of a jump to the 7000's, which would make the D5000's a safer bet. But a more balanced headphone is more commonly preferred for the genres you listen to. The D7000's would also require more time to get used to, your ear needs to adjust to the more different sound signature. It took me a few days go adjust from the Pro 750's (a very bassy can) to the D7000's.

It really depends on whether you want to keep with the same sound signature (D5000), or if you want to try something new (D7000).

Whats the difference between the Denon sound signature and the Ultrasone sound signature.

They're more similar to each other than they are to, say, Grado. They both follow a bit of a V curve (moreso the D2000's; the D5000's have more mids, so it's balanced with bass emphesis, the D7000's have less bass and more mids, so it's fairly balanced).

Because I only can compare the Pro 750's to the D7000's, I don't think I'd be the best at comparing the two sound signatures. The D7000's are in a completely different league than the Pro 750's, and sound like it too. But I have had an almost monogamous relationship with Ultrasone headphones for about 5 years, so I'll try to describe them (more specifically the Pro 750's).

Ultrasone takes the "fun" sound signature to a pretty strong degree, they're very very polarizing. People either think Ultrasone cans are a *ton* of fun, or they think they sound awful. I'm very much in the former camp. The Pro 750's were a "dance like a crazy person" type of can. They are super precise and fast, but also *immensely* cold and sterile. They have zero warmth to them, which isn't all bad, the coldness made them feel very very clean, almost like listening to peppermint. The mids were very very recessed, which isn't a huge deal if you listen to things like electronic music, but once you listen to something that is all mids (like poorly mastered metal) it is easy to notice. The bass...well the bass is really the best part of these headphones. It is like getting punched in the face with raw energy. The bass gave a great amount of body to the music, and shook your head without making the bass sound flabby. The bass actually was immensely tight and detailed. But also very very powerful. One thing that was nice about them was the fact that was very easy to analyze music on a per-note basis with these headphones. I could take (for instance) a drum hit, and seperate the hit, from the climax ping, to the rolloff. It is really an interesting experience. I don't know if it is because they were easy to analyze, or if its because I've used them so much.

I was split between the Ultrasone DJ1 and the D2000. Malveaux told me Denons had the same great bass and treble but without the recessed mids that Ultrasones have. So I jumped on the Denons, I think they're incredibly fun, I have yet to try out ultrasones.

I would definitely take the D2000's over the DJ1's. If it were the Pro 750 vs. the D2000's, it'd be a harder choice.

Really? why?

The D2000's are a higher end headphone, more on the level of the Pro 750. The DJ1's are simply the HFI-580 with a nice paint job. A nice headphone to be sure, but not on the level of the D2000.

Agreed.  The D5000, too, sound ridiculously good straight out of a Walkman.
