Refurbished Monster Turbine .. disappointed

Hi all, I'm new here and I ordered a pair of Monster Turbine headphones after weeks of reading reviews. I was choosing between these, the NuForce 700-m/x, or the image s4's. I tried a friends Beats Tour headphones and I fell inlove. However, I thought they were overpriced and I could probably get a better or same quality headphones for under $100.

I ended up choosing the Monster Turbines because I read there's a good quality of bass AS WELL AS balance in treble etc. Overall, these seem to be the wise choice. I saw a posting on eBay for these refurbished headphones for $40. I thought this was the best deal I've ever seen, so I went ahead and bought it. The total costed me $65 including shipping and taxes (I live in Canada)...

I just received the headphones this morning by mail. Overly excited, I unpackaged these headphones and stuck them on to my phone and put on some music. At first, I didn't really hear the bass..so I thought why not put on some Dubstep to see how the bass is and how it sounds (compared to the beats tour). I was highly disappointed. These headphones sound like my cheap $10 headphones with a LITTLE bit more clarity...

Is there something wrong with my headphones? Should I "burn-in" these? They ARE used and refurbished...so I don't think I would need to burn in...Am I just expecting too much? I have Sennheiser HD555's for my computer + gaming uses, and they sound better than these monsters...

yea you should burn them in and see.

but if you wanted HD555's sound signature, you shouldn't have gone with them

Probably fake.

I've had these HD555's for almost 3 years. I enjoyed them for gaming purposes, but for music, I didn't want such big headphones to wear in public. I enjoy In-Ear or earbuds.

I tried my friends Beats, they were fake as well (I learned how to tell the difference from youtube lol), but it still sounds 10x better than these!

So after looking thoroughly through my headphones, I realized that the jack is different from the rest of the monster turbines... It would normally say "Monster" at the end of it, however, I see a Skull.. I'm guessing this is the skullcandy logo...

****, I just got scammed. Is there any way to contact Monster about this? Is it possible to send it in? :\

You're probably on your own. Don't worry, it was only $40.

If you're still interested in Turbines, buy the refurbished ones from Monster's company website. They cost $50, plus shipping.

Sounds like you aren't getting a good seal -- if they sound thin and no bass.  You should try some different size tips (if they came with any) to get a good seal in the ear canal.  Even fakes can sound decent if they are fitting you right.

I don't think Monster will do anything regarding this. I sent my turbines (original, thankfully) for replacing and I've read that If they see that they are fakes, only thing you can do is to pay for the return shipping.

Also, did you check if the seller accepts returns?

If you bought it on ebay I think they have some form of protection in case of fakes. I would open a claim against the seller and go from there.

Yeah, I did it with IE8s a while back, actually got my money back and in the end the fakes returned to me as well, so I got to compare the worst thing I've ever heard (because fake IE8's sound fresh from the dollar store and the seal is just off) to one of the best things I've heard.
