Sony XB500's Selling Out Almost Everywhere!

Hey guys,

I'm a big fan of this site and recently signed up, I wanted to get your opinion.

These headphones are sold out at most of the major online stores, they were going for around $50 and I'm wondering if these are an older model that won't get restocked.

Thanks for your time!

As great as the sales for the Sony XB line is (especially XB500 seems to sell like bread n butter) I wouldn't be suprised if Sony launched a new XB series soon. I mean it's almost like XB500 getting a more common sight than Beats by Dre these days...

They are all over the X Factor these days, so I wonder if that's driven a big increase in sales lately.

Indeed lol. Especially Astro has been wearing them around his neck almost all the time...

Marcus and Chris wear them a lot too.  Not the best cans to use for vocal training especially since I doubt they even attempt to EQ them.  I'm gonna have to see if Jimmy Iovine gets some of the contestants to wear Beats when American Idol rolls back out, lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a near-holiday shortage.  They are becoming a common sighting.

Pay $30 more and get the 700s

I've seen over and over that the 500 is actually better than the 700's because they have punchier bass and not as harsh of highs.

Yes the 500s are the best in the line up.  It's great to see them selling out, a $50 headphone with more bass than the beats, what's not to like!

As far as I can tell, it's not that they're "better," so much as different.  The 700 apparently has a more sub-bass focused sound, whereas the 500 (which I own) is more mid-bass focused.  Apparently the 700 also has better mids, highs, and soundstage, but doesn't EQ as well as the 500.

I liked the mids and highs more on XB500 vs XB700 even comparing unEQ'd. XB500 had more forward mids (especially lower mids) but perhaps not quite as clear but I personally like as forward as possible mids and the highs were slightly too bright on XB700 and just slightly too veiled on XB500 but I rather take tiny bit recessed than exaggerated highs as I'm a fan of a warm sound. XB500's bass is pretty much even in the whole bassrange while XB700's starts to roll-off as it reaches the midbass section. It's down to personal taste, I very seldom speak of "x" headphone being better than "y", it's different but not better and it's just often down to personal taste what's the best to go for. If I say XB500 is better than XB700 I'm just speaking from my own preferences in sound.

Haha you contributed to my interest in the XB500's! I've been doing a lot of research around and decided to get these 500's for fun bassy headphones and wait for the V-MODA M-100 for a more natural sounding headphone and most likely a better version of the M-80.  smily_headphones1.gif
