M50s, HD25s, SRH840s, or the Ultrasone 750s? HELP!!

Hey guys, this is my first post and I'm trying to find some headphones around the $250 price range and want something bassy.

My thoughts are-

-Audio-Technica ATH-M50

-Sennheiser HD25 Studio Monitor Sealed Headphone

-Shure SRH840 Professional Monitoring Earphones

-Beats Pro (I've heard really bad things so probably not)

-or the Ultrasone PRO 750 S-Logic

My favorie looking are the M50s because of the style, but if the others are that much better I'd probably go with those.

Also I'd be getting an amp to go along with the headphones, I've been looking into the FiiO but don't know what really to look for, I want something small that I can still hook up to my computer.

Hello. I was in this position not long ago. I got the m50s. Btw, on amazon the m50s are on there for only $115!! Plus, you wouldn't need an amp for the m50s, so you'd save some money. Now, i really dont know much about headphones, im a newb, but i have the m50s and theyre pretty good. You can hear a lot of details, its pretty cool. In my personal opinion, the vocals are a little recessed? Maybe i just like loud vocals, but to me i hear the vocals fighting with the instruments a little bit. Btw, havent tried any of the others, but youre right, DONT GET THE BEATS! wink.gif

I would actually say the Beats Pro, ONLY if you could get it for $200.

If not, I would go for the HD25 (all thump but no boom) or the Ultrasones. Not sure about the 750's bass signature though.

Actually I can get the beats pro for $250. And yeah ive been debating between those and the m50s.

Hm. I guess you still could get it. The Pro's SQ (IMHO) is a league ahead of the M50's SQ.

if you're going to be getting an amp i'd suggest beyer 770 pro 80.

they can be found relatively cheap these days.  especially if you're willing to buy used.

i think a lot of people here will tell you that headphones get better with age.  they do to me anyways.

to my ears the 770/80 has got better bass and detail than the m50 and beats pro.

the shure 840 has great mids and punchy bass but is not a bass head can by any stretch of the imagination.

i havent heard the ultrasone

and comfort on the beyer is top notch.

I own all those except the ultrasones.

The shure srh840 is the most neutral of the 3, It's also the most accurate and ploys every genre well. Most detailed of the 3.

The audio technica ath m50 is nothing to brag about. Decent for $100 but not for more. Listening to them now and they can be harsh and uncomfortable. Bass is boomy and not thumpy. And the mids are recessed giving it the impression of less detail.

Now the sennheiser hd 25 1 ii is my favorite of the 3. It has a few negatives though, can be uncomfortable with glasses, on ear instead of over ear, and small sound stage. But the positives out weigh the negatives, They are immensely fun with rock, electronic, metal, anything fast and bassy. They have a slight v shaped sound signature yet the mids are still not recessed a whole lot. They are aggressive but not harsh, and they have good powerful thumping bass. Details are still slightly less then the shure srh840.

My recommendation

Get the shure srh840 if you want something very versatile, circumaural, and detailed.

Get the sennheiser hd 25 1 ii if you want bass, and treble and listen to fast genres of music, Also consider it if you want portability. (my personal recommendation as it wowed me on first listen)

Don't get the ath m50 unless you want average $120 sound quality. Also m50 is going for $140 on amazon now. Hardly a deal.

Actually they're $115, and then why am i hearing such amazing reviews on the m50s?

The reason they get so much praise is because the m50s satisfies a ton of new buyers who haven't tried anything else. It can play any genre but still i find them mediocre and quite average for $120. For $115 i don't recommend them. Like i said you would be immensely more satisfied with sennheiser hd 25 1 ii.

yeah i kinda agree.

when i had the m50 couple years back i loved it.  then moved on to other things that i liked better.  when i heard the m50 again recently it just didn't do anything for me.  not sure why.  could just be what my ear is used to or that im just not a fan of the sound signature
