ad700 or pc360?

Hello friends. I am looking for some gaming headphones. Ive decided on either the ad700 or pc360. I would get a clip on mic for the ad700. I might buy a turtle beach DSS thig or if i go with the pc360 id need the astro mixamp for the mic. (This would be much more expensive, so im sorta leaning toward the ad700) i will be using the headphones with my xbox 360. I kind of like how the ad700's supposedly have little bass, because i dont want grenades blowing the crap outta my ears and since bass in nondirectional i dont know where it came from. Which leads me onto my next point. How good is the soundstage on these? Will the astromixamp/turtle beach ear force DSS make a huge enough difference on these headphones to justify the cost? Thanks so much in advance! Edit: btw, soundstage and pinpointing every silenced bullet, knife swipe, and footstep is probably the most important aspect for me.

Ya, how much are you going to be using voice?  The PC360s mic + mixamp is very convenient.

I will say that if "soundstage and pinpointing every silenced bullet, knife swipe, and footstep is probably the most important aspect for me.", the AD700s does this a little better.

Thats because the AD700s have a natural EQ like this:

sigmoid.linear.close.gif

Most of the things like footsteps, reloading, etc fall on the right side of the graph, so they're emphasized.

I'm not saying this is pleasing sounding to listen to (often it's not), but if your looking for a competitive edge...

PC360s sound more like tweaking that back to a flat graph.  While it sounds more natural and less fatiguing, the footsteps, reloads, etc. are now better balanced with the rest of the spectrum instead of emphasized.  And no, the bass won't bother you.  PC360s aren't bass emphasized.  The PC360s certainly have enough detail for gaming, it's just that the AD700s have more -  exactly like applying a sharpening effect on a picture.  Again, may not sound as pleasing.

In terms of soundstage, the AD700 is a little bigger, but it's soundstage would be certainly be more enjoyable if it's frequency response didn't look like that ^.

Ah man... Haha you make this so hard for me :P i like the ad700's cuz theyre cheaper, too. How much would the ad700's benefit from the dss?

ANY headphone will benefit A LOT from having Dolby Headphone.

Although, the DSS higher noise floor (higher than the mixamp) combined with the AD700 low sensitivty = audible hiss.

Rrrrrr... You just love spending my money :P jk! I guess with the money i will save buying the ad700's i could use toward the astro mixamp instead of the ear force dss. Thanks for helping me out, bro. Do you think i made a good choice?

No problem.

Ya, I mean there's nothing wrong with that choice.  For the price the AD700s soundstage is quite good.  If you end up getting tired of the frequency response, you can always sell them.

And I think you would be better off with a mixamp in the long run.  If you decide to upgrade to a different headphone the mixamp will serve you better. You can look for used mixamps on ebay for cheaper.  All they do is sit on a desk, so they don't wear out that much.

Alright, cool. Ive looked on ebay but havent found any less than $100 with less than 20 bids frown.gif i dont think i understand why you dont like the ad700? They have such great reviews? Btw, which has better soundstage with mixamp, pc360 or ad700?

My problem with the AD700 is the signature.  Too much treble, not enough bass.  It just sounds sharp, thin, and weightless.   I have no problems with it's soundstage.  Luckily my Q701s pick up the slack here.  Similiar soundstage, but with much more body and weight.  They are more enjoyable for single player/immersion.

AD700 is a little bit better for soundstage than PC360s, but the better balance of the PC360s had me reaching for them over the AD700s.

No problem.

I don't know, if your leaning towards the AD700s just get them.  Just make sure to get a mixamp as well.
