My Sennheiser HD 448 are gone... Any suggestions for a replacement?

Until a few days ago, I was a proud owner of the Sennheiser HD 448. Now my wife decided to use them at work smile.gif I liked the sound signature of the HD 448 (balanced and relatively neutral) a lot and could simply buy a new pair. But I wasn't too impressed with their build quality (they were very comfortable but felt a bit flimsy) and they could have had a bit more bass for my taste.

I am now looking for a new closed headphone for $100 or less with a very similar sound signature, better build quality and slightly more bass (I am not a basshead!). I already decided to get the Grado SR60i as my "rock headphones" but need a second headphone with better sound isolation. Digging through previous threads, I found that the Shure SRH 440 are often recommended as an alternative to (or an improvement over) the HD 448. But I read mixed comments about whether they have more or less bass than the HD 448. Does anyone here have experience with both headphones and can comment on this?

Thanks!!

Anyone? Sorry to bump this thread. I was just hoping to get some advice before investing in a new headphone (Shure SRH 440) without knowing how much it will improve over my old phones (Sennheiser HD 448). Unfortunately, there isn't any place close by where I could test them.

Thanks!
