Bookshelf speakers under $200 for home gym

Hello guys/gals,

I am in search of a pair of bookshelf speakers to pair with my receiver and sub.

I'm looking for a 2.1 setup, as this system will only be used in my home gym.

I listen to a wide variety of music including: Rap, hip-hop, new era rock, classic rock, and dubstep.

I have been researching speakers in my price range for the past couple days, and these keep popping up with great reviews:

http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Performance-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B0000E2XEB/ref=sr_1_14?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1322605780&sr=1-14

(I like that they have a hole for a hook too)

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

Connor

They are $10 cheaper at JR.com, need to use the coupon bode "JRGOOG".

I usually hear good things about Polk Audio RTis.

Thanks for the heads up.

Would you add any other speakers to my list of possibilities?

Possibly Paradigm Atoms?

That is another option. They are not mentioned as much as Polks though....

Can anyone comment on the P162's?

Can you elaborate?

Also, they are lacking a simple slot for a hook.

Yeah, they probably wont work for my purpose. I also have a sub, so I don't want my speakers to be too bass heavy.

Ok then http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-B2030P-Ultra-Linear-Reference-Monitor/dp/B000N94S7O/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1322680073&sr=1-2 , these are netruel.

They sound good at high volume and are good at filling a room with sound, there also quite punchy there front ported so they would be good for wall mounting. There is a larger version that would more ideal for you but there over your budget http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-B2031P-Ultra-Linear-Reference-Monitor/dp/B000LQ2ABK/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1322680525&sr=1-1.

Thanks, i'll look into both.

What do you think of Klipsch's entry level speakers? :http://www.klipsch.com/kb-15-bookshelf-speakers-pair

I listened to them yesterday in Best Buy's studio room, and they sounded great.

On another note, is there a site dedicated to open box, or refurbished speakers? I am willing to not go new, if it gets me a great deal on superior speakers.

Never heard them, but there rear ported so not suitable for being placed near walls. You could look though craigslist for used speakers.

It's looking like the Polk's are the way i'm going to go, unless someone can suggest anything better....

May I also suggest the Cambridge Audio S30s? I have a pair and they sound great! They are very music orientated.
