Good thing I'm aquiring a Sennheiser IE800 soon :P

Strangely, having had the HD800, still owning the SA5K (on my head as I type) and having had the IE800 since early December, I think I can say that the IE800 will tonally beat the SA5K (which sound oddly coloured in an A/B), but the SA5K win by a country mile on transient response / driver speed (sure you can attest when comparing HD700 to SA5K)...

To answer the poster below you, the LCD-2 I have is strangely outclassed by the SA5K, but, more worryingly, I feel by the IE800 moreso :(

[Edit: Should learn to keep my mouth shout, the LCD-2 is cleaner (tonally) than the SA5K by a country mile, although a little sluggish in terms of speed - ironically still faster than most cans, just that the SA5K excel in speed), but in terms of fun factor I still give the nod to the IE800...]

Well I'm kind of glad I didn't invest in the HD800s as well for 900 dollars during the sale haha.

Otherwise my wallet would be really empty now.

Thanks for sharing your impressions on the IE800s. Can't wait to try them out myself. Looks like they don't pale in comparison to the full-size cans.

Would you say they are similar in terms of sonic signature? Referring to the HD700 and the IE800. Or is the IE800 closer to the HD800s?

I don't think it's strange at all what you stated about the LCD-2s. I personally found them enjoyable, just not fast or responsive enough for my genres of music. Which the SA5000 just excel at.

I'm not too surprised the LCD-2 is outclassed, especially in speed. But as of late, I've been gravitating to a darker sound. Even my dark-sounding T50RP mod sounds bright at times to me. This does make me quite interested in the IE800 though, even though IEMs are not my jam.

Schiit Lyr.   Have to be real careful with the volume knob though.  This combo could destroy your hearing in short order if your not careful.

Little Dot MK II for me. Also agree with raptor, any decent amp will make these scream. I find the warm tube sound makes these more fun to listen to for my ears.

Oh look! Interesting that these headphones still get some attention (hey, Oliver! :) ). I get very good results with the GS-X, but surprisingly they're even better on the WA3 which tames the treble a little bit.

Hey there buddy!
I felt inspired enough to pick up the last two pairs of the SA5000 after talking to you and a few others. Just really can't stay away. Convinced my cousin (he knows nothing about audio) to take the second pair.
The WA3 should pair well with the HD700s. Is that what you heard when you had them?

Really?? That's nice, I'm actually having second thoughts on selling mine after the HD700. But we'll see!

I already had the GS-X when I heard the HD700, but seeing how well the WA3 paired with the SA5000, I'm guessing the HD700 might achieve some interesting results as well.

They were discontinued in 2012.   I got mine for $350 at Amazon.    Since they are now very rare,  prices have doubled.
