HeadPhones on a BUDGET....HELP!!! --I've read the forums

Thread Starter

Hello fellow members,

I am new to this forum and to the audiophile concept in general. After reading the forums for hours I have decided to make a thread in order to get some personalized advice.

Here is the situation:

Budget: Around $200.00 ($50 - $100 more if the gains in quality are huge)

Music: Classical, Blues, Rap/Hip-Hop & Some Indie Rock (nothing heavy)

Sound Preferences: Equal balance is optimal

Usage: Everyday, including commuting to school and work. Public transit/streets/home.

Source: I-Pod/PC

Priority: SQ but looks also important, (not to such an extent as to be valued over SQ).

I have narrowed the selection to a few models:

Sennheiser HD 598

Audio Technica ATH-M50

Audio Technica ATH- ES7

Denon D2000

Further info: I have noticed myself bringing the Bass levels down and increasing Treble usually for ultimate enjoyment, so Bass is not a priority but needs to be decent.

Now I know that with such a small budget, I cannot expect amazing quality but any help will be appreciated. I am leaning towards the

Sennheiser HD 598 because most reviews say that it is balanced overall and I like the look of it.

But as far as suggestions, please tell me what you would consider buying.

Thank you,

The m50's should also be a pretty good choice plus at only $150 that would also leave you some room for a $20 fiio e5 amp witch will help

Sennheiser HD598 or Denon D2000

HD598 is less bass heavy but more balanced overall, forget the AT M50 ~ it's over rated, I own it

and it just gets more disappointing with time, lacks clarity, extension, not great for the price

~ it is built like a tank though.

Right now there is a really good price on the HD-598 over at Electronic Expo, use the coupon code BOUNTII

You do know the Sennheiser HD-598 is open?
