AD700 + Mixamp is a great combo. They just lack some bass but still good.

I wouldn't bother with the DSS if you can afford the Mixamp.

The ATH-AD700 is easy to drive.

Save money, just get the DSS

But if you not gaming, why even get the DSS or Mix-Amp?

Want?  or Wont?

If you want to use AD700s for gaming please note that the DSS noise floor is high enough that you will be able to hear hissing.  This is because the AD700s are quite low sensitivity and will pick up the hissing better than most full sized headphones do.  The wired mixamp has the lowest noise floor (quietest).

Get the Mixamp, it's simply superior for the common headphones that would be plugged into it.

Plug any headphone into them and you'll get your desired effect.

You can get the AD700 if you're sold on them (sadly). But if nothing else, I hope to encourage you to explore more options before you throw money away at the AD700 just because some internet group said it was "best for gaming." Which, it is not. But I digress...

Very best,

Mixamp + AD700  > (better )>  DSS + AD700

Simply because you will hear hissing with the DSS AD700 combo.

But, if your on a budget, you can get the DSS.

hey men you get the pc 360 and the ad 700 what is better

I like the AD700 soundstage, but the thin sound signature ruins the experience for me.  The PC360s have a slightly inferior soundstage but much better balance.

PC360's have a mic though, and you don't need that.

The mic-less equivalent would be HD558s.

They are on sale very cheap right now at Electronic Expo:

Use the discount code BOUNTII and they drop to $118, which may be the lowest I've ever seen them go.

I've never owned or used the DSS or Mix-Amp, so my best guess

Turtle Beach Earforce DSS, you input a (Dolby) digital optical (audio) signal, from a PS3, xbox, PC, etc

then the DSS outputs a Dolby Virtual Headphone (surround sound) to headphones.

The Mix-Amp does the same, but also transmits your voice back into the system for others to hear.

The Audio Technica ATH-AD700 (open headphones) is a great headphone for surround sound gaming like FPS (First Person Shooters), it has a very light in the bass, easier to hear someone (footsteps) in the game.

Most other headphones have more bass, the heavier bass can hid important sounds in the game.

Not sure what would be a better headphones for FPS.
