I had a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770 80ohm that I bought used. Recently my friend's dog chewed up and destroyed the cable. Does anyone know what the cost of repair might be if I were to send them into Beyerdynamic, and if there is possibly a reliable but cheaper option?

A very all-round headphone for me. Just the right one to take on the go or on holiday. Also as a DJ, nice noice isolation. Very durable so you don't have to wonder if it will break if you throw...

Some audio stores have a resident 'headphone guy' ~ a few of them do anyway down here in Melbourne, a guy with far
too many headphones who contracts his services out to stores and repairs their stock, namely old vintage models that
cannot (or will not) be serviced by the original manufacturer.
I'd ring around your area, alternatively anyone like a talented TV/DVD/Stereo repairman ~ all they have to do is get
the enclosure open for a basic re-wire. Might as well use new Mogami cable.
Sadly, It might be cheaper though to cut your losses and get another headphone unless you can find a guy on
the cheap or do the work yourself.
It looks like I have about 3 feet of cable from the headphones end still intact, and I have about a foot of cable intact from the plug side. Is there any way I could reattach this if I don't mind the shorter length? If there is a guide, or DIY, that I've missed, it would be extremely helpful.

Ahh good ~ so you're saying that the headphone end into the housing is intact?
The dog just chew the middle of the cord? Leaving both ends undamaged?
Ok, if this is the case then all you need to know are what each wire underneath the insulation is and
then re-wire to your choice of a 1/4 or 1/8 plug end which you can get down at Radio Shack or where ever.
Snip the cable where the chewed part begins, this should leave you with 3 feet of good cable and an exposed
wire end ~ source a new plug end and check out the video below.
This video will give you an idea of how to solder a new end on the cable
