I need help deciding

Thread Starter
Well, I've been on head-fi for a short while but this is my first post
Christmas is coming soon, and my birthday is 2 days after christmas
Right now I have an imac, a hifiman hm601, an ipod classic with a broken headphone jack, a pair of hippo grooves and a sennheiser hd650
So, what should I get for christmas/my birthday?
I have no amp at the moment, so I was thinking a graham slee solo, which is available at the jaben close to me
But they can order in schiit. So I might buy the schiit asgard and a DAC (maybe the bifrost)
But then I thought about buying a ray samuels audio hornet and a cypher labs algorhythm solo
I also have a bunch of CDs and records and no cd/sacd player, and a cheap, almost broken turntable
What should I do guys?
Any suggestions for gear? Budget is about $800, probably can't go beyond that.
I'm relying on the much better, well informed head fi members here. What should I get guys?

Violectric V100.

Looks pretty good. Any reason to get this over the solo (sounds pretty great)
I wouldn't be able to buy it from the site, paypal is a pain, hopefully jaben can order it in

Are you in the USA?

Here is the power out for the flagship Graham Slee Solo Ultra Linear

Power output: (rms, both channels fully driven at 1% THD)

32 Ohms: 140mW/channel; 600 Ohms: 30mW/channel

Here is the power spec for the Violectric V100 (3rd column)

As you can see the Violectric V100 is up to 12 times more powerful than the Graham Slee.

At 300ohms for your HD650 (not specified but you can guesstimate) there is going to be a lot

more power on offer. Not to mention voltage output which the HD650 can use, Graham Slee

do not publish their figures.

Dual headphone outs are handy too on the V100 ~ grab another headphone and you can share

with a friend at the same time.

Whoah, that's pretty impressive
No, I'm in Malaysia
There's a reason I'm favoring the slee or the asgard over other suggestions, as they have the slee in stock and the asgard can be ordered in.
I can't use paypal, so buying directly from the site is a no-go
All the stuff mentioned above could be bought at jaben, which is a 5 minute bus ride from my house

See how you go, it is handy having Jaben around the corner ~ see if they can get it in for you ~ the Asgard and Slee won't make your HD650

fly like the V100! biggrin.gif

It's a lesson I learnt the hard way ~ buy the best amp you possibly can the first time around if you're 100% sure that you're going to

stay in the hobby ~ saves you money in the long run.

Balanced inputs too on the back of the V100 ~ if you ever get a fancy stand a lone DAC one day with balanced XLR outputs ~ you can

use that feature with the V100 ~ again, the Asgard and Slee don't have those features.
