Hello all,

 

This is my first post on head-fi. I was introduced to this website via a google search when I was researching full size headphones for console gaming, which by the way I purchased a pair of Sennheiser HD598's and I'm very pleased with them. 

 

I currently have the HD598 headphones hooked up through my Onkyo 5.1 AV receiver. Naturally the headphones are plugged into the 1/4" headphone jack on the receiver and I'm listening to games in stereo sound. My receiver is a modest $350 range unit.

 

My question: Can the Astro Mixamp provide better sound through its Dolby Digital decoding, or would I be wasting my money?
