Bose QuietComfort 15 vs Soul by Ludacris sl 300

Hi, I'm new to the site and was hoping I could have a quick question answered.

I am deciding to get some new headphones for the holidays and wanted some nice over-ear headphones.  I'm no audiophile, but I do want some solid headphones I can use for a long time.  I usually listen to rap/hip-hop, dupstep, and a little rock on the side.

I came to the conclusion I either wanted to Bose QuietComfort 15's or Soul by Ludacris (the sl 300).  I was hoping someone could give their two cents on which headphones are an overall better value for that big price tag.  Anything will help, because I am having a tough time researching which of the two I would like.

Any other suggestions for different headphones are fine, but a reason why would be nice!

Thanks for your time.

I would personally avoid both of them. The build quality of both leaves a lot to be desired if you want something that will last. Better sound quality and build quality is out there for a lot less. If you are not amping, you might like the Audio-Technica ATH-M50S  or Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro/80 at about ($120 & $175 respectively) and save yourself some cash. If you are amping, there are a number of other better options as well.

Nice!  Thanks barfbaggs, I was looking at the Audio-Technica and the reviews look great!  I will probably be leaning towards this one over my other two choices.  I did see that some reviews said they were a bit uncomfortable though...  I did look at the audio-technica's ATH-ANC7b QuietPoint Active Noise-cancelling Headphones... they look pretty good

You also said there were a number of good ones with amps?  Anything you would recommend?

p.s. for the audio-technica's, some reviews said the base is good, but not great... your thoughts?

I have owned the M50s and even with my 7 7/8 head I did not find them to be uncomfortable. It is a snug well-padded fit with good isolation. I found them to have a fairly well balanced sound with some accentuation on the highs and lows. I found them to be pretty strong on the low end. These can still be have for $119.99 shipped from soundprofessionals.com and Guitarcenter will match that (out the door with tax included). The DT770's which I have also owned are incredibly comfortable, and a little smoother sound overall. Drawback is they are far less portable.

Alright i will keep my mind open. I do like a lot of bass, and i guess the m50s have some leakage? I dont know yet, but i will probably get something with more bass...
