12" Vinyl to 'MP3' Converter [Possible Christmas Gift]

Hi all,

Christmas is coming up in a month and I had an idea for a gift to give to my mom. She has a whole collection of 12" vinyl records and sometimes she wishes that she had them on hand on a computer so that she could burn some tracks to a CD.

I thought it would be a perfect gift to give her a vinyl-digital media format converter. Last year I had a similar idea and I actually purchased a cheap one from Macy's. Upon further research, there weren't very many reviews for it, so I decided to return it since I didn't know if it worked well or not.

My question for you more experienced audio-enthusiasts is, what vinyl-digital media format converter would you recommend for me? I don't have a set budget, but I would like to keep it under $300 (my brother and I will split the cost). Ideally, for my mom, vinyl-MP3 would be good enough, but if it's an option, I would like to have the option to convert to a higher bitrate format.

Thank you all so much for any feedback you can provide.

I use one of these :-

along with some free software from Audacity, might be a bit over the top for your Mum, but it does a cracking job. Hook it up to your existing TT / Amp and off you go.

Hm, that looks interesting. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look more into it. Does it come with instructions as to which cable to put in which port? Just by looking at the labels on the E-Mu, I'm not sure where things would go or if the TT has those cables (I don't have any experience with the TT itself).

Yeah it comes with full instructions, software etc. All you need is a set of  RCA/Phono to TRS 1/4 cables straight from the line out from your amp into the front of the 0404.
