Will TRS (2 ring) 3.5mm male to male audio cable work with TRRS (3 ring) 3.5mm male to female...

So basically, I am getting a pair of Ableplanet NC300W's (for only $35), and they seem to be very good headphones. Now my question is, since these headphones take 3.5mm male to male stereo cables to work (connected to ipod etc), would these work with 3 ring TRRS (control) cable adapter?

Here is a little picture I made showcasing what I mean, http://i43.tinypic.com/2dt9hs1.jpg

It is 3 rings (male to female inline control adapter) connected to my headphones, then connected to normal 2 rings (male to male) which therefore is connected to my ipod.

Would this work? I never understood why it was 2 rings and 3 rings, and why they would be selling 3 ring inline adapters if they don't work with standard 2 ring cables (and I honestly haven't seen 3 ring normal male to male cables anywhere)

(I just don't want that bulky volume control on the Ableplanet's, and I would replace it with just a standard cable, but wanted to see if getting a inline adapter was possible. OR IF ANYONE knows if I can get 1 cable which is a 3.5-4 Feet detachable male to male cable with inline controls IS possible or not.)

Not 100% sure I'm following you, but if I am, yes, the point of the adapter is to allow you to add inline control to standard TRS jacked headphones.
