What am I looking for? Deals with Xbox 360

Okay, so I dabble in audio a bit, not much really compared to most here. I feel I have a grasp on most things, but due to my lack of exp, reading can only do so much.

Recently I've been using my Xbox 360 w/ a stereo receiver and that's how I got my audio from my Xbox to my headphones. I mean, I have adapters to avoid using the receiver, but the audio quality is so much better and I loved the EQing n such that came with it.

My friend bought the FiiO E9 and I figured I would get the same effect quality wise, because for me there's an obvious difference between my headphones via the receiver and via my dedicated sound card in my PC. However, this was not the case.

All I can assume due to lack of really using any kind of setups, is that the stereo receiver has both a quality DAC and amp? That the E9 didn't live up to my expectations, because there was no DAC (outside the laptop's)? That my sound card's lack of an amp is also why it doesn't compare to the receiver?

Does anyone mind telling me what I'm not getting or what I'm confused about?

Also, I basically just want to get the same effect from an external amp/dac or whatever, that I did from my stereo. Budget is around $100 - 120. I was looking at the FiiO E10, but apparently the only audio in is the USB, so that rules out it's usage with my Xbox right? As an alternative I'm looking at the iBasso D-Zero. Would that work?

I forgot, in case it matters, I'll probably be using my A700s or my SR60i's (for when I want to hear people near me, since they're my only open headphones).

Thanks a bunch.
