Hey guys,

 

Im looking to purchase a pre-amp for my father for christmas, preferably a tube amp.

 

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Depending on your budget, the choices here are pretty good.

Doge 8 is highly recommended after the 4x 12AT7 stock tubes (used in the preamp section) are replaced with better ones.

Im looking for something in the $400-600 mark, and preferably with an equaliser.

You could go for a used Aragon or Acurus preamp, they won't have tone controls, but will perform better then anything new within your budget.
