Quite frankly, I was floored by their overall sound, including the bass, and am now starting to wonder if I was too hasty in thinking these cans lack on bass.

Another thing worth mentioning is that I think these cans are approaching 100 hours of burn-in, which might have something to do with the increase in bass. The reason I think this is that when I listened to The Beatles (again, Magical Mystery Tour) last week I am sure it didn't have as much bass, and as a result wasn't as good as when I listened to it last night.

One thing I am certain about is that the Q701s sound amazing with the above albums.

Just got these. Maybe 5 hours in I didn't think they lacked bass THAT much or were "muddy" when under amped as some would say.

BUT I just got a cheap "crappy" Bravo V2 (plenty of noise sure) but the bass is there. Amped on Bravo V2 they sound better than my X1s. damn.... listening to Phil Collins Face Value right now on the Bravo V2 and a UCA202 dac they sound amazing.

Your signature says you have an ODAC and O2 amp. Do you not have these anymore? They should sound good from the ODAC and O2 combo.

I'm using mine with an ODAC and the speaker taps of my Emotiva Mini-X speaker amp. They do like power, and do sound better with more power on tap.

My O2 and Odac are at work ATM. At home I only have the Bravo V2.

I brought my q701s to work for a couple days, but oh my god do they bleed sound. Much more than my X1s even.

I only listened to a couple hours of Howlin Wolf at moderate volume levels, while that sounded great, it is an old recording and was not a great way to test the frequency ranges of the q701s.

Q701 vs HP200? I found them for a pretty attractive price. I will be using them for competitive gaming and some music like dubstep and top hits.

I think the HP200 is more v-shaped (more bass/engaging)... so depending on that price, they could probably work pretty well for ya. Haven't heard them myself though, and the Q701's are beyond amazing for gaming.

Do you guys think a Fiio E6 would be enough to power Q701s?

The more powerful E17 is a poor pairing for the Q701 so I doubt the E6 will be able to. A E12 works fine though.

I used the E5 when I first got my Q701. It was better than straight from my Recon3D and a bit better than my iPod, and a great experience (and not fatiguing), but the sound was technically better in every way (such as bass control and impact, separation of instruments, depth of soundstage) and objectively more enjoyable with a higher quality amp. I wish the Schiit Vali and Project Starlight were available when I started, I probably would have gotten one of those, but I got a nice class-A tube amp and a FiiO E12, I like both of those and the tube amp is more like the Project Ember.

wow. didn't know what "muddy" sounded like until I just listened to the q701+bravo v2 with adrian sherwood (some bass heavy reggae). With stuff like Ali Farka + ry cooder (original african blues ) it just sings. sounds amazing.

Very picky combo it seems.

Thank you for this interesting tip!  Which Ali Farka Toure album is this? I am listening now to "Savane" through the Bravo V2 and Beyerdynamic DT250-250.  I do not think that Ry Cooder plays on this album.  Unfortunately, I do not have the Q701 with me now.  One more question: is your Q701 bass modded?

Hmmm, hmmm, hmmmm, I never had any trouble driving my Q701s from my E17.

I actually don't hear a difference between my Schiit Asgard 2 & Xonar DG soundcard (high gain on).

You shouldn't have any volume problems with the E6 unless you have very poor hearing.
