I think that's the short one.  Now there's almost zero chance of rolling over it with my chair.

I checked, it's the short one.  Not sure I've ever used, or will ever use, the long one.  I very rarely use the braided cable; usually only when I'm plugging into a 3.5mm jack.  I have a Grado adapter I bought when I got my SR-225s years ago, and while it's nice enough, I prefer not to use an extension.

Nice, and the stand, too.  Where did you get that?  Also, did you make your AKG cable?  If so, I'm wondering if you had to reverse the pinouts?  I had Redco make a cable for my Q701s, but didn't know I needed to tell them to switch the T & R.  When I started to research making my own, I read that that was almost always the case.  Sure enough, their cable was reversed.  I converted part of it into nice interconnects for my stack o' Schiit (it was too thick for a HP cable anyway).

Been awhile since I've stopped in here but I found these wool comfort straps finally. I posted about it awhile back but didn't have a link.

Man these are interesting.  They kind of remind me of the unmodded Q701:  sparkly splashy highs that border on too much, really really nice smooth mids, bass with fantastic extension (way more than the unmodded Q), decent control but really low on quantity.  The bass has me scratching my head though.  Sometimes it's like really good and other times it's almost missing.  I'm wondering if it has some kind of bass hump that's like... lower frequency than the normal "mid bass hump".

Either way, the sound signature is really appealing if you like the Q701 sound sig.  I'm going to burn them in for a few days (SoundMAGIC recommends 100 hours!) and see how they change.  They won't be replacing my Q's at home, but they should be good enough for work for sure!

The treble gets really smooth after some burn in.  It even handles harsh recordings (Psychocandy for example)  like a champ.  The bass is slightly elevated in the subbass while the midbass is leaner.  I stuffed some cotton balls in the pads behind the ears to angle them and get a better seal and improve comfort.

I'm thinking that subbass is more than slightly elevated; it seems to be what makes them sound fantastic for like, say, Daft Punk.  The lean mid-bass tends to get lost in songs with no sub-bass to back it up.  I'm curious to try this with my E11's bass boost later.

I'll pick this up with you in the HP100 thread.  I doubt people in the Q thread want to hear all about it.  :-D

Do you think the cable made much difference?
And if the cable did make a difference, what did you hear?

I braided mine the other night.  I'm quite pleased with how it looks now and the length is perfect for sitting at my desk.  :-D
