Wouldn't that be a technical downgrade?

Hd700 to Q701? Eh, I think that might be an upgrade!

Not really such a thing as a "downgrade" in headphones unless the shift is dramatic (i.e. HD 600s to PortaPros).

I tried out these headphones and damn, they need a lot of juice. Not something that I could run off of my phone at all. They were comfortable except for that stupid headband. I really liked how they sounded (such clarity, much wow), but I thought the bass could be improved. Only the bumps on the headband really hold me back from wanting them. How's everyone felt about the headband?

Wasn't the most comfortable pair I've ever warn (that'd go to the hd800s) but definitely not off-putting.  I found that once they broke in they were comfortable enough.  The first week they were a little tight on the noggin though.

Tightness doesn't bother me. They have to be an unbearable clamp like the Sol Republic Tracks in order to make me refuse to wear them. If they're around-the-ear and don't touch my ears, I don't really have a problem with caliper pressure.

The bumps used to bother me.  They don't really anymore.  I don't know if it's because they've broken in or I just got used to it.

If it's a big deal, you can get a baby seatbelt pad for just a few bucks and I hear it does wonders.

The headband is the work of Satan! The baby seat belt pad does work but it leaves you with little room for adjustment. What actually works better (but looks ugly) is cutting a credit card in half - a useful skill for any committed head-fier - and blu-tacking it across the two central bumps.

Or buy Sennheiser / Beyerdynamic.

my mom said:if you think the bumps are annoyingly pain to the head, then don't wear the headphone that long. i don't know how should i respond to that lol

Maybe this dates me, but I like the official designation: 3020 (the original) and D3020 (the new one).  Actually, NAD writes D 3020, with a space.  See, e.g., http://nadelectronics.com/download.php?140205093147-14-015_NAD_D3020_DataSheet.pdf|D%203020%20Hybrid%20Digital%20Amplifier%20-%20Data%20Sheet

In that case I'm dated too. I remember when the original 3020 hit the shelves. We couldn't buy in enough of them. It fair shook up the staid UK Hifi industry at the time. I've never owned one though. In fact, in some ways, the NAD kick-started the consumer hi-fi over here. It was in response to the 3020 that brought the Arcam Alpha to the market. And the Mission Cyrus One was around the same time. I went Mission. Still one of the best audio components I've ever owned.

The headband doesn't bother me it's the cups/pads stiffness and the clamping pressure bothers me...
