i also sticked it back out of curiosity, and the difference is quite obvious. It's like 2 different cans ==

Ouch, seems like the reviewer prefer the 2011 K701 over the 2014 Q701... hehe.

Thank you.  How can you tell that the reviewer preferred the 2011 K701?  I do not see a summary review. Did you compare the charts?

I can't speak for the reviewer, but under the Reviewer's Opinion chart, there are quite a few things that he/she found better on the K701's.
Transparency, Dynamics, Treble Texture, and Bass Texture. Might be true, who knows, I have yet to read reviews on Q701 vs K701.

From my pre-purchase Q701 research, the Q were a clear upgrade to the K, mainly due to the Q's better bass balance. It was an easy decision at the time because of the concensus that the Qs were definitely an upgrade.

Now if golden could do a measurement set with the sticker mod!

Anyone know which would be better for the modded Q701's, the O2+ODAC como or the MODI+VALI(MODI)?

I actually like solid state amps with the q701's. I'm looking for something that would be a step up from my Aune T1. Looking for transparency.

I am leaning towards the O2+ODAC combo but I really like how the Schiit stuff looks and how the schiit stuff is much cheaper.

Any help would be appreciated.

As for saying which was better from reviewer graphs now vs 3 years ago, it's not an exact science... If you based your claim that the reviewer preferred one because of the evaluation graph, I'd disagree with you there as I don't think you can make that claim based on that.

I am using the o2+odac combo.

and I think it will be better than Schiit stuff if you are looking for transparency.

plus if you already modded your Q701 you might not want to loose any more highs or sound stage.

Not saying Schiit stuff always loose highs/sound stage but if they are tubbed then o2+odac should be better for your modded Q701.

just my 2cent

I've got a Vali, and it's one of the best amps I've heard paired up with the Q701 (unmodded). Really a sublime amplifier for these headphones.

Thank you both for your replies. Both seem positive. I hope more people can chime in.

Has anyone compared the O2 vs the Vali or M-Stage in driving the Q701. I'm still not sure which one I want to get. I'm also hoping the winner will pair well the HE-400 and X1.

I have not heard any, but I assume because the M-Stage is actually a Lehmann BCL clone, which is a $1,000+ revered amp, it should be the winner. Many have said that its the best under $1,000 amp.

The M-stage is an option for me as well, do you know what dac would be good in that price range that pairs well with this amp?

No idea, I do not have an adequate experience with DACs to make recommendations.

I read that the M Stage is based on the BCL but it doesn't sound the same because it uses different components. The Lovely Cube is supposedly a true BCL clone.

No problem, thanks!

Has anyone tried this amp: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/E-01-Finished-Headphone-Amplifier-with-ALPS-potentiometer-115V-230V-/400524224210

It claims to be a Lehmann clone
