I am.

I find them super comfy, and while the bass is lacking some, I rather have that than too much bass......not a basshead at all.

Mine are the Austria phones, and I am loving them just as they are.

If I listened to a lot of rock then I would have probably already modded them, but for classical and jazz they are perfect as they are.

Also on the stock train. I've tried the K701 multiple times, K702 multiple times, Q701 stock and modded, and K702 anniversary. I think the Q701 is the most natural and detailed sounding in stock form, given the right amplification.

It's very rare to find a headphone amp on craigslist. I'd check out the classified on head-fi, or find a specific model(s) and check on ebay.

You could...use them without an amp...

They will still work.

A little piece of advice , turn the volume down to 20% before using the Q701.

I do not own the Zx (or Z.....yet), but someone on another thread was thinking of doing a Q701/SB-Z combo, so I though I would post the question for him.

I use my Q701s with a laptop without an amp for gaming and they are is fantastic. I would not dream of bothering with an amp.

Yeah... that's what I thought too until I got convinced to get one. It was indeed an upgrade.

It's not like you have to get an amp, but it's just something to keep in mind if you want to get the full potential out of those.

Yes, keep it in mind, but don't obsess about it.

From another thread:

"A question I have wanted to ask for a while but never got around to it. I am primarily an audio engineer so I don't really have an abundance of flagship headphones, but what I have noticed with the headphones that I do have, is that I cannot tell any difference between plugging right into my iphone vs plugging into my Apogee Duet (DAC/Amp). I have tried with my Etymotic and my AKG Q701s, and could tell any difference between my iphone and my Apogee/computer, even though I was expecting to. I wouldn't blame my ears, I can easily tell the difference between my pair of Q701 and my friends K701. Any other possible explanations?"

I'm a pretty visually and audio stimulated person. I used to spend 10 to 14 hours a day (I still do whenever I get the chance) on my computer photo editting, listening to music and playing games. After the long mental burn in times, it's easy to tell if I'm running a game at 50fps or 60fps, or switching from my Supreme FXIII onboard to an E07K+FiiO E12 combo. On a side note, what improved on the Q701's is the soundstage and bit of extra clarity in well recorded tracks.
Unfortunately I'm already obsessed with technology in itself, and for a hobby that I spend a great deal of time on; it's a great investment from my standpoint.

It's not like I'd be able to tell a difference instantly like pointing out framerates in video games, but for audio, it takes about 5 minutes after my ears are relaxed and I would be able to tell what the changes are from the previous sound source.

I'm currently thinking of getting a shorter cable, maybe a canare + rean plug, heh, might be lighter and shorter, easy to be portable

So I came across something interesting today. I wanted to screenshare Battlefield 3 with my friend on skype, and I couldn't do that with the E07K+FiiO E12. So I used my onboard audio for an hour. After a while I felt my ears felt congested and I started shifting in my seat.

I TOTALLY forgot I was using onboard, I replugged it to my setup, and Battlefield 3 came back to life again. I really felt like I was going room to room and I felt the soundstage widen and everything was more crisp, being able to tell directional audio more clearly. Despite my 48-51 kills to death ratio... everything felt good :)
