Q701 impressions thread - Page 331

That's very subjective to say. The O2+ODAC combo is very well worth it for that price, even more considering you can modify it for using batteries, but I cannot tell you if the upgrade is worth compared to your current combo. The E12 is a really good amp for what I heard and it drives the Q's with no problem (probably not worth if you only planning to drive the Q's). The ODAC is better than the DAC on the E07K, but the Sabre is well and you can get it for less than $50 new. Your current combo is more portable as well. What would be the main use for it? To sit on your desktop? Are you gonna sell your current combo?

Next thing I know I'm forking out another $200 for this hobby.

I just need an unbiased opinion on if this upgrade would be worth it.

Would an Objective O2 and ODac combo be worth it for $200? Would I be able to feel (since now I'm hearing that these upgrades are felt more than physically heard) a difference between an Objective O2 and ODAC combo compared to a Fiio E12 and E07K combo?

Just to power the Q701 and Fostex T50rp

I'm just comparing it in terms of sound quality. I'm aware that one is a LOT more portable than the other.
I just want to drive the Q701's to its' full potential, and yes I'll be using this for my desktop. However I plan to keep my E07K/E12 since I'm quite a collector. Although if the E12 really is that efficient than I thought it to be, I'll keep my E12 and just upgrade my DAC. :)

If you are going to buy used (as seems the case), just get the combo and if you don't like it or don't find any difference you can resell for basically the same price. You wouldn't lose any money and you can decide by yourself. I was pretty happy with the ODAC+O2 combo and it will for sure unleash the full potential of both your foxtex and your Q's.

With my modded T50RP and bass mod Q701, I am loving them from Fiio X3  at work - maybe just my taste.

At home with HD650 I think I prefer ODAC/O2 . YMMV

I got a nice Mogami cable custom made from Redco (US company; CT, I think).  Very reasonable price, even with the Techflex sleeve (cheap plasticy version; not sure if they offer the multi-filament type, which is more like cloth).  They have a custom cable page, but you can contact them with specific requests, e.g., Techflex.  Very easy to deal with.  And like johanchandy's experience, I find the sound to be cleaner than the stock cables.  Nice to have a 5-foot cable, too :-)

Thanks mate, i just ordered mine this morning. Unfortunately there were no options for techflex sleeves on their custom cable page. It's ok though now i can get rid of that green cable finally :)

Yeah, as I noted, you have to email or call them to request something not listed on the custom cable page.  But the Techflex is not necessary, of course.  Hope it works out for you.

This one's only $57.  Throw in the USB Isolator and it's still under $100.  Personally, I love this combo.  It's even making me hold off on getting the Bifrost.

Order a set from amazon but all I have is a Fiio e10, will that do or will I need to invest in a better amp/dac?

The e10 works great. If you end up liking the Q701, you can look to upgrade then, but definitely not necessary.

I think you might find that the E10 is all you'll need. It drives just fine both my hd650 and my q701. The dac is good and you can add a more powerful amp later if you feel like needing more power.

My Q701 finally arrived today. This have become my main headphones for soundtracks and more vocal oriented songs. My HD598 will stay my main for rock and electronic.

I connected directly to my sound card (Sound Blaster Zx), they sound great, i can keep the volume low without a problem. Thank to that ,i can save for a good amp and DAC.

Now i need to decide if i want to try a tube amp like the Bravo 2 and the T1 that have been mentioned here or a solid state amp, more exactly the O2.

Bravo Ocean work well with Q701 with bass port mod.
