Q701 impressions thread - Page 323

Myself started to listen to the q701 yesterday again after I been using the hd650 for ages. Listening thru the Hegel dac and Luxman amp combo I never trind before with the akg. And damn! The lows that been abit weak before started to show up. I just turn the bass knob a bit and it sounds really good! No detail loss what my ear can hear. And the treble is nice, no harshness to my sensitive head:)

I'm using mine through an old Pioneer SA508 and the sound is amazing too. They really respond well to these older amps (especially the bass) :)

I collect older amps and I nearly bought that same Luxman that you have a while ago. Luxman make great amps.

I been interested in pioneer aswell! But true, didnt expect it to be this good, even better than my headphone amps smily_headphones1.gif Dad said it had a nice phono input aswell so gotta try it aswell, and its nice to be able to listen to my speakers aswell, just unplug the phones.
I guess I have to visit a nearby old man that got 100s of vintage amps/recievers etc... smily_headphones1.gif

Look at jerg's re-grilling and pad mod threads.  Not saying do them, but some things to consider.

As soon as I get my hands on them, I will mod them and you know it wink.gif

Did I mention you've got to try your Q701 pads on the HE-500?  GOT TO  ;)

My new Q pads for the HE-500 can't get here soon enough   Where's the Being-Driven-Mad-With-Anticipation emo??? :D

Hello everybody,

a satisfied Q701 owner here. Finally decided to get a proper amplifier for it.

What desktop amp that costs around 400$ (no more than 500$ shipped) other than the Lyr would you recommend?

Side note: it should pair well with HiFiman HE-400 I just ordered.

I've already looked at O2 and M-Stage but both don't go so well with the HE-400. Any other suggestions?

Vali with modded Q701 is pretty nice! To my ears it sounds basically the same as my Headroom Micro Amp and Astrodyone PS.

The Vali doesn't really "add" anything to it's sound i've found. It's really fully sounding and not thin or lean (the Q701 should never sound that way IMO unless it's the recording).

I doubt the Vali sounds like a warmer tube amp. I don't find it warm at all, but really just nice and full in the mids but I don't mean colored.

Right now i'm using it with the Headroom Micro DAC which is using the Cirrus 4398 DAC chipset.

Modi is also fine with it but only tried it for a half hour with the Vali.

I really wonder how the Bifrost compares to the Micro DAC and Modi with the modded Q701..

BTW for me I think the Modi is a slight upgrade from the E17. My E17 is currently out for warranty service. Died on me :frown:

Moar Q701+Vali description details? I liked what I read about micro texture and non-splashy treble, qualities I really enjoyed in my (more expensive but homebrew) Rock 'n Glass tube amp with a Sylvania JAN 6DJ8 tube.

I just picked this up and it sounds sooooo good on the modded Q701. This headphone does pretty much everything well.

I loved my Q all along, but I also wish I knew about it earlier. It takes it to a whole other level.

I removed the tape and put it all back together. I changed nothing else.
