(you already know :p) or at least delay that purchase for a long while.

Don't know why I'm picky about that, but it's a little irritating that tdockweiler gets all the praise. Not that he wouldn't have earned it, but, you know... Oh well, nevermind.

If anyone else did indeed came about this before tdockweiler in this thread, then my sincere thx to you also.  I often don't scroll back too many pages and read every threads about Q701.

Thank you. Wow... i had to pull like maniac, it was scary. Anyway, i decieded to put the white dots back as i didn't like the extra bass.

you won't regret it if you are doing the mod to a Q701.

Did you mod the headband? I've only seen a K701 with a modded band, and it looks... rough underneath.

Found an interesting old thread. I might try to find some leather scrap and do this mod to mine :)

elwappo99 you can change it with the K601's headband, which is essentially the same but without the nasty bumps. Tutorial here:

Not entirely sure about this one, but a Beyerdynamic headband might fit:

If it does, that'd be the easiest and cheapest solution.

I did.  Not perfect but I think it's pretty clean and comfortable.  When the pad wears out, I will probably buy some soft leather and stitch it into the band.

I've actually done the swap with the K601 headband myself a long time ago. It was really easy and cheap because I had a spare K601 headband. I think it runs like $80 just for the headband though, which seems a little silly. I wonder if the K702 Anniversary headbands are going to be cheaper ??

Looks like a really easy way to cover up those left over scars, I might look into this.

@elwappo99,  I used a piece from the side of an old small laptop case.  It's thin but cushioning.  You can use any similar material including leather if that's what you fancy.

Look at this guys... Maybe the color is not the most appropriate but it looks neat:

I cut off the bumps, smoothened the surface a little using coarse sandpaper and glued on four layers of thin foam. Then I stitched the leather on (1,5 mm thick ox leather), which took me about an hour and a half. Now I can enjoy the k702's for hours on end!

What material did you use?

My last post.

Guys, I am loving this mod very very much.  Much more balanced overall while retaining the great mid.

Are you guys sure the white circle is tape?  It doesn't really look like tape to me since it's not transparent.  Does it stay sticky after you remove it so you can reattach it?

It´s kind of a paper/plastic tape with a circular plastic sticky ring around.

I wonder if you can get replacements from AKG. I'm not sure that piece has a separate part number.

The circle is only sticky around the edges. Mine has been sitting out all night and still is good enough to reinstall if needed.

I was looking at it through a light to see if it's sort of allowing any air to get in but it looks like this is not the case. If someone wanted to reverse this, regular old plastic tape would work. About 95% sure of this.

The type that doesn't allow air to get in and out. I think air can leak through some masking tape but maybe not?

On some headphone baffles there is this thin fabric/paper that sort of regulates air getting to the driver. This is definitely not that type of material (thankfully). Well not from what I can tell.

You can hold it up to the light to see it better.

Someone who didn't like the bass could always experiment maybe with 3M Micropore tape (which lets air in). It's at any drug store.

I think the bass might be too much for the K712/Annie, but maybe might be OK with the foam and outer grill installed.
