I'm sure that from time to time I'll fire them up with music just for comparisons sake....but with Grados there are those who don't like them at all, those who like them but dont love them, and then there are people like me who they just click with like peanut butter and jelly. For whatever reason, they just take me somewhere that other phones can't. I've used the comparison to Magnepan quite a few times, and it's amazing to me how many similarities there are between the two companies and their products. Different technologies, of course, but for whatever reason these are the two audio companies that have captured my brain. I'll never give up my Maggies, just like I'll never give up my Grados lol. But I prefer to have a variety of phones around, so I'm sure the Qs won't get lonely or collect dust :)

About the PS500 I finally decided to put it for sale preferring my DENON D7000 since it is easier to use on a wider range of musics. You know, I have two lady friends who just insist on using their apple buds when they are on their iPad. Is that not completely absurd?? I've offered to buy each of them headphones that would be comfortable and just obliterate the buds, but they dont have any interest....I'm so glad to hear that your wife understands what a great pair of headphones can do for movies and/or their iPad/tablet/iPhone use! 

So are you able to drive the Qs directly from your iPad or do you have to use an amp with that? 

No shame in preferring another headphone to your Grados...hopefully you'll help someone realize their love for the 500s once you find a seller! :)

The DT880 and DT990 need more voltage, which means you have to turn the volume up more, or set the gain higher.

But they are not very taxing for an amp, because they don't pull a lot of current.

 

OTOH, apparently new K702 are the same as new Q701s and you can actually listen to Q701s via an iPad, just don't expect them to sound fantastic thru an iPad.

 

Really all those phones could do with a very nice sounding amp.  The Beyers usually sound better thru a tube amp.

Yeah the Beyers have a much higher impedance. Good to hear that the AKGs get more volume out of the same source.

I just remember being amazed how much amp it took to make my K 240 studios sound good when they're only 55 ohm. I went from hating them to loving them after amping.

Can't wait though. MADE IN AUSTRIA!

Anyone who buys these definitely needs to try them with an amp. I can get adequate volume from my iPhone with them when it's cranked to the max, but they sound much better when a quality amp.

I love these for movies too. The reason I started using them to watch movies was the long cable that came with them let me sit in my favorite easy chair. They really pick up a lot of backround sounds. I have these plugged into my Yamaha HTR 5990 and they sound great together. I use them for music too and love them better than any of HPs I own. I have a pretty good home theater setup in the basement  but I cant use it at night  because it keeps my wife  up and neighbors complain about the subwoofers.

I think it's fantastic that they include two lengths of cables...I have a 20' extension cable here, but it's a cheapo....the AKG one is much better.  I love my T1s for movies, but I dont' like dragging them with me when I come over to spend the night at my lady friends place...so these are great...I just leave them there and they're ready for me when I listen to movies at night so I don't disturb her. I can't see paying $400 for these, but at the current price of $235 they're a very solid buy.

I have a Planar PD7150 projector 720P /TI Dark Chip 3 DLP with a 92 inch Elite screen, Oppo 981-HD DVD player,Roku XDS for streaming Netflix and Amazon, PS3 for gaming and Blu-Ray.

  All matching   Rocket rosewood speakers from  AV123 ...RS850 Signature Main Speakers,RSC200 Center Speaker and RSS300 Adaptive Dipole Surrounds with 2 Klipsch Reference RW-12d subwoofers for some oomph. I have an Elite screen, as well...have always meant to upgrade it, but the elites give a pretty nice picutre for the money. Have seen pics of the Rockets many, many times....each time drool-inducing :)  I'm even with ya on the flat screen in the corner for regular tv watching....I used to use my projector for everything in the past, but I found that it sort of takes away the fun a bit....it's better to have a smaller screen to watch for regular stuff, and then use the projector for more important sports/movies/etc. Just my opinion :)  Nice set up, man!!

Wow, I've owned the K 702s for about an hour and I'm blown away by my inability to find any flaws with them. What a masterful alchemy of non-fatiguing sound and detail/definition.

I don't get how people constantly call these thin, harsh, for video games, etc. They're just beautiful...
