NEED ADVICE!! Home vs. gym headphones

I'm planning on getting the ATH M50 to replace my generic headphones because they broke. Ive found they are the best home headphones in my price range which is up to 160 dollars.

But the problem is i also go to the gym and im not planning on bringing the ATH M50 to the gym. So i have to find a good pair of in ear headphones to go to gym that are fairly cheap( up to 40 dollars), but i still want some really good isolation, because my gym is very loud. For the gym im choosing between the Klipse image s2 and the PK3 earbuds. Does anyone have any advice for good isolating in ear heaphones that are good at playing metal and rock music, that are in my budget.

Also im worried that the in ear headphones may turn out to be better than the ATH M50, and i dont want to waste 150 dollars, so will the ATH M50 be a huge upgrade from the cheap in ear headphones, cuz i was planning on using it for some guitar  use so i want to hear every note in each recording i listen to. Any advice will be greatly needed

what do you think about the m50 though i heard a lot of people say u had to break them in for 50-100 plus hours until they sound good

and even then i heard the bass was muddy, the treble was a off, and the mids were recessed.

Of course i think their making a big deal out of it because their comparing them to 250 dollar and sometimes up headphones, and open headphones which have completley different mechanics.

Does anybody have a pair.

And how do guitar solos sound on them.

That seems to be a lot of folks' impression of them, but there are a ton of people who also love them.

Did you specifically want closed headphones? Grados/Alessandros + guitars = teh sexay.

Ya ive used closed headphones b4 and really liked the isolation i got from them. I dont know if open headphones would provide them same effect, plus i dont want everyone hearing my music, because im going to be listening to them for general music and guitar. But if they reproduce the recordings better than the closed headphones im all for them. I heard they can be really expensive though. Also what recommendations do u have for my up to 160 dollar budget. And have u used the M50s. And which headphones would best fit my genres which are thrash, neoclassical, grunge, punk and just general rock.

I haven't personally listened to M50s - just going by what I've heard/read.

Check out the Shure SH840s, too. I know there are some folks here that absolutely adore them. More mid/high rangey than bassy with recessed mids.

...I'm blanking a bit on other options. :\

The main thing i was worrying about was that i didnt want to listen to my gym headphones and them be better than the m50s.

Because im going to get a cheap pair of gym headphones, but im going all out for home use. So if the cheap headphones are better than the m50s that would really piss me off.

Plus i've never had experience with audiophile headphones so i dont know what to reference or compare it to.

But I was deciding between the shures and the the m50s and decided the m50s are better because they seem more balanced from the reviews i read and i like the style more

but i like the removable cord on the shures which i like, but I've broken almost 10 headphones due to the cord, but the m50s are really good quality so i dont think i need to worry about the cord breaking.

Also if i do get the m50s i dont know whether the straight or coiled cord is better, because i heard their is some differences between the older  coiled model, the newer coiled model, and the newer straight model, due to factory production line, and how the burn in affects their future performace. I like the straight cord though, because the coiled cord would be annoying cuz it would weigh one side of ur head down.
