Are surround sound headphones worth it?

I had a 5.1 speaker setup and that was great-only problem wires everywhere and space putting a 5.1 setup. With a headphones, at least the footprint is small and I don't disturb everyone else and will always get good sound as the speakers are always in position (in the headset). With a proper speaker setup, it can be a bit tricky especially when you are slightly out of range. Also, I am the only one who only uses the 5.1 for gaming, the rest of the family are fine with normal stereo for movies. I saw the recent episode of tekzilla and wondered if it is worth it or should I wait for some time for the product to completely mature? After doing some research, people have recommended me the Corsair HS1. Its quite an attractive headset at less than <£50 which is good. Also since I'm not willing to spend more than £50, I think this is my only choice though I'm still not sure if the surround sound is there. Also with a proper speaker setup, I could hook the PS3 to it directly. I'm not sure I could use the PS3's usb port with the corsair headphones even though it has a usb connection. So, are surround sound headphones worth it?

Don't buy a headphone with multiple drivers.  When it comes down to it, you still have driver(s) sitting on top of either ear, and there's little room for natural sound dispersement.  You're left to software to simulate surround sounds by adjusting the playback of each driver.

Getting a tried-and-true stereo headphone with 5.1 processing software like dolby headphone is just as good an option-- and usually cheaper, higher quality etc.

No you would be much better off with a pair of conventional headphones... 5.1 headphones are a gimmick and you would be much better off using dolby headphone on your soundcard with a decent pair of conventional stereo headphones..

Find some YouTube clips of CMSS-3D, Rapture3d or other HRTF technology at work and be amazed.

Any suggestions? The corsair HS1 could be considered this type of headphones right?

Need to listen to it with cheap earphones. I do notice the difference-however I have no idea what the song originally sounded :P

Good grief no not that video. I don't know why someone would bother using CMSS-3D and Dolby Headphone to compare a crappy techno track. Completely against what they were designed for. I meant a track of a video game.
