Hey Guys, I'm gonna be getting one of these headphones for christmas, and not being able to test them out, am relying on you guys to make my best choice. Im deciding between the Sennheiser HD439 or 449, and the Audio Technica ATH-M50s. I listen to mostly rock music (Rush, Boston, that kinda stuff). So what's your opinion on which headphone would be right for me? Thanks

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm trying to stay away from open headphones. I've heard the AT ATH-M50s are real nice

Hi Timothy, definitely M50 over the HD439/449 if they sound anything like the HD438/448.

Alright thanks, what makes the Sennheisers not as good?

What is the main difference between the two?

The Sennheisers are good but not for rock music. They have a very warm fluid sound, which makes

guitars and drums sound like they're lacking.

For rock, at that price range it's either M50, or Grado SR60/80 or Alessandro MS-1.

If you're feeling generous, the HD-25 I-II (split headband) is about $180 on Amazon right now.

Any reason for staying away from open headphones? The SR60/80s were built for rock.

Well a lot of the time I'll be listening to them, it will be pretty quiet. I don't want other people to hear the music and be distracted. Otherwise I'd definitely look at open headphones

A modded 438 using my methods makes the M50 look so pale its not even funny.

Anywho on topic,

MS1 or SR60/80 for Rock/Metal, they are designed for it. Enough said.
