Question about field/nature recordings

I need help combatting a memory lapse. This isn't quite about music, but this category seemed to fit better than most.

I'm trying to find a name I came across in the past two weeks. It's the name of a man who makes field recordings, or recordings of nature sounds. I was at the public library, looking at the racks of recent magazines. I think this man was mentioned on the cover of a magazine, and the headline had something to do with the preservation of quiet. In the article itself (maybe), there was a surprising AllMusic blurb (surprising since he doesn't make music) acclaiming him as a major figure in this field of recording nature sounds.

Does anyone know who I'm talking about? I've just hunted about and tried to find the magazine, but it's gone. This is an area I've been interested in for a while, but have never really looked into, so it would be nice if I could figure this out. Any educated guesses appreciated.

Don't let the prices freak you out, they can be had on Amazon for a few bucks.
