Then in the broader time frame, and rather than go down the predictable Mahler-Sibelius-Stravinsky-Shostakovich route, I'd mention Vladimir Godar (my favourite single piece is the passacaglia for cello, but as far as I know it's never been recorded), and Weinberg's first solo cello sonata (Op. 72).
