Favorite piece of 20th/21st Century Classical Music?

I am and continue to be blown away by what may be my favorite piece of music of all time, Arvo Part's 3rd Symphony.

 

What is your favorite 20th/21st century piece?

Sally Beamish, Viola Concerto 2 (2001).  Available on a fine BIS recording.

 

Incidentally, are we talking 20th/21st century (thread title) or 21st only (the actual post)?  Part's fourth symphony is 21st century, but number three is 40 years old.

I didnt want to limit to just the past 12 years so, both 20th and 21st.

 

Ive never even heard of Sally Beamish...

These threads are a great way to expand one's horizons!

 

Then in the broader time frame, and rather than go down the predictable Mahler-Sibelius-Stravinsky-Shostakovich route, I'd mention Vladimir Godar (my favourite single piece is the passacaglia for cello, but as far as I know it's never been recorded), and Weinberg's first solo cello sonata (Op. 72).

There are really too many to list, but I'd like to put in a word for a newish recording of Ives Sonatas

Funny, I've always found Stravinsky somewhat still romantic to consider it 20th century... Never got that...

Aaron Copland music is my favorite.. From fanfare to the common Man,Appalachian Spring and third symphony are all special to me.
