Is this the incoming Shure Open-backed Headphone - Page 2

Whoa... if these are similar or better sound quality to the SRH940, with maybe a slightly warmer sound signature (hopefully as flat as possible), and reasonably priced (as all Shures seem to be so far) - this could be some really big competition versus some of the mid-fi 'giants' (HD650, DT880, etc.)

I'd guess they'll sell it for $400 or maybe more. They probably could sell it for $200 but then head-fi would have a confirmation bias that it's worse than other more expensive headphones, similarly to how people have a confirmation bias that the SRH940 is inferior to K701/DT880/etc.

P.S. Does anyone know Japanese? It would be nice to get that poster thing translated for any pieces of information we can get :)

I'm going to put in my vote that they are NOT an eq'd SRH840 with no bass.  Thanks.

Mmm, no bass.

I don't understand who said anything about no bass in the first place.

He's just guessing that it's not going to be an 840 with no bass. What's that got to do with who said what in the first place?

Oh, I thought his comment was in response to something, because it was quite specific: "I guess it's NOT going to be an EQed SRH840 with no bass."

It's kind of like if I said "You know, I'm gonna guess it's NOT $345.93." just out of the blue.

ac500: The poster doesn't say much other the December 6 announcement and Michael Jones saying how comfortable and great-sounding his headphones are. rolleyes.gif

I was saying that I don't want an open back SRH940 wink.gif

So you're basically using this thread to take a hit at the SRH940. Okay :P. So do you think the SRH840 is just as good as the 940, but with more bass? I thought the 940 was more detailed.

I think this is a good move by shure. Expanding their headphone line to include possible headphones targeted at audiophiles. Shure must be aware now how much of a hit the srh440, srh840, srh940 have been among budget audiophiles.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

The 940 is far more detailed than the 840s. Its detail is the same as / exceeds the top tiers.

Ahaa, my comment actually was directed at rhythmdevils. A cheap attempt at "provoking", though he's a cool cat of course and would not fall for something we've been going back and forth in past threads tongue.gif

I like the K272 better than the SRH840, hence "Mmm, no bass".

Regardless, was thinking the same thing as RD when I saw through the grill of this phone; Possibility of a non-dynamic? That'd be interesting.
