x-fi titanium HD on gigaworks t20 (will I see a difference?)

I'm using onboard sound at the moment.
I want to upgrade to a x-fi titanium HD.
Also, I'm planning to get a AD900 headphone in the future.

The thing is, if I won't see a difference with the upgrade on my gigaworks t20,
i'm planning to just buy the soundcard and headphone together later.

but if it makes a noticeable difference, i wanna upgrade the soundcard first.

i'd appreciate any advice. thanks!

You will probably at least hear a subtle difference but not earth shaking difference, depend however on the on board sound you now have as some of the HD audio on board is pretty good. Mind you there is still a difference but very subtle in some cases. not the earth shaking difference that you got with AC97 on board sound.

I can't say for sure that you'd notice a difference with those speakers. Depends on whether or not you hear any faint buzzing when moving the mouse or have any disk activity going (like I do with my board's Realtek ALC889A implementation). Headphones tend to be more revealing of such flaws, and the AD900 most certainly would reveal such nuances.

The only other time I think you might notice a difference is if you play any games that make use of EAX 3/4/5 effects, given that they're just outright not available to those without Creative hardware. (It's the reason why I'm effectively stuck to their offerings; playing those games without EAX enabled would not be as the developers intended it to sound, right?)
