Well I have decided while sitting at my computer I want to use a full set of cans and probably a dac and maybe a small desktop tube amp. I dont know much about tube amps and could use some advice. Is there a dac/tube amp that is small enough for computer desktop or will I have to use a small dac then line out to a small tube amp. How does the sound of a tube amp compare to a solid state amp, as how is the sound different?

Best closed headphones I had heard - very flat response, almost no midrange distortion, very easy to drive (good for portable), good soundstage (definately better than K240), good isolation, but...

Overall excellent buds, very good sound quality, especially for their price, the medium set of tips fits exactly in my ears and provides a near perfect seal. Bass is very detailed, but not...

I'll keep this very short. They are very smooth sounding. Treble toned down so not so good for rock but have a magic about them that makes them better than mark 2. I use them with a '89/'90...

Bought these on whim, for your basic train ride to work I don't mind. But its far from being the best I have own.

First, I should note that I auditioned these both straight out of the box, without any break-in time and then later after 53 hours of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite...

Tube and solid state amps can sound any which they they want. There isn't a generic answer as the design possibilities are considerable.
So, I think you may be going about this backwards. What kind of music do you listen to? What is important to you? Detail resolution? A "neutral" or "warm-sound"? Good bass thump? Great vocals?

I listen to most everything other than country. Rock, jazz, christian, classical, metal, and more. I love great vocals but dont want a flat sound. I need to hear a good about of bass. I do listen to a lot of female vocals and instrumental. I dotn want a sterile sound, but I dont want the bass to over power it. My portable rig is p51 with ue-11 or ue-5c and sometimes an e11.

The big question is:
How much you got?
Seriously though, you might want to decide which cans would be best for your taste(and budget) and then choose the amp...or do you already have the cans?

Second that. Start with headphones. Many people looking for an initial upgrade to their computer set up are plenty pleased with warm sounding, easy to drive headphones without having to spend too much money.
How much would you be willing to spend on headphones alone?

I think headphones budged is 600usd or under. I am looking at akg phones and going to sample some beyerdynamic cans. I have looked at the darthbeyer but not sure how they sound. I pretty sure I want a closed set so not to bother my wife if she is in same room.
