I like the HD600 and 650 pretty much equally for most house, ambient, lounge, trance, etc. The thing is, if you care about more than just hearing a beat, you'll eventually want headphones that sound great as a whole, not just in the bass department or whatever. Good electronic music can sound great and be very complex and well recorded, so it most definitely pays to have great allround headphones.

Even the 598 is pretty okay for most electronic imo (although the subbass tends to stand out negatively). Years ago I used to use them quite intensively for listening to tiesto's in search of sunrise and magik series, and if I hadn't discovered headfi and/or moved on to the 650/600, I probably still would. I guess I feel that headphones being bound to genre tends to generally be exaggerated somewhat. Maybe things are different when you're really talking about 4 to the floor, rhythm focused, no melody, almost bass and drums exclusive music.

Hey I recently picked up Shure SE 215. They have pretty good bass response. They go pretty deep, have nice rumble to impact ratio. Their vocals are a little tiny bit forward from neutral - good for vocals. The treble doesn't have much extension but rolls off smoothly. I find it quite good for the price.

Hard not to pick a pair of FA-011's for this category of music.
