Also it has to be portable to fit in a back pack and is good with ipods and ipads

Sennheiser HD-598 are only 50-Ohms and are easy to drive with out an amp.

Personally, I like using amps.

One of these should do the trick.

Fiio E6, E7, E9, E10 or E11.

I would say it should work with the iPad, you should be able to use a male to male mini jack (3.5mm) to plug them together.

The Fiio L3 cable is listed as iPod, iPhone and iPad compatible.

Is using the L cable better the headphone jack sound wise

i think i have decided to get either the e6 or e7 but what are the main differences between the two

i am also getting the L9 cable no doubt

or the e 11 i dont know the difference and i need some input

The E11 has been getting some good reviews.

Using Fiio "L" cables improves the connection (better sound) between apple products and Fiio amplifier/Dacs.
